The price of leather depends on the quality of the rawhide used. If a hide has many flaws, insect bites, brand marks etc., it can only be used if the surface is largely covered with colour pigments. Although these flaws are not quality defects, they just do not look very nice. These leathers are prevalent on the market, because many animals show a lot of natural characteristics. Rawhides with few marks are not found on the market that often, and are inherently more expensive. These hides are used for aniline and semi-aniline leather on which the surface is not or just lightly covered. As no hide is completely flawless, a higher waste factor must be considered when working with these leathers, because W.SCHILLIG does not include such marks when cutting for visible areas. Thus, more waste is generated during production of a suite which causes the price to go up. |
